PYNKTALKS Episode with Carrie Able: "Art is my light"
By Olivia Cigliano
PYNKTALKS Volume 4 features artist Carrie Able (@carrieableart) and PYNK host Rebel Jones. They met over Instagram and Facebook Live to talk about Able’s career as a visual artist, musician, and virtual and augmented reality artist.
PYNK TALKS is a new series hosted by PYNK NYC (@pynknyc) and FYID NYC (@findyouridnyc) designed to spotlight talented women artists and entrepreneurs.
Throughout the episode, Jones asks Able about her artistic upbringing (Able notes, “My mom jokes that I came out of the womb with a paintbrush”), bravery in expressing yourself, female representation in the community and accessing creativity in quarantine.
Able admits that art cannot be demanded and that it's proved challenging to tap into creativity during this period of isolation.
“My mantra has always been ‘art is my light and solitude in friend in darkness,’” says Able. “And I mean that it's saved me so many times. I think that if something helps us, the creation of it, then what a gift it is that it can also help someone else.”
