Meet Jules Daud, the Argentinian Band from Brooklyn
Jules Daud is the name of an Argentinian band from Brooklyn, New York, but it is also the name of the leading musician. Originally from Buenos Aires, Argentina, Jules Daud moved to New York from Minnesota three years ago in pursuit of sharing his music and culture with others.
The band’s music can be described as a combination of rock, punk, blues, bossa nova and other sounds from South America. There are a couple of different styles but it comes down to being a band that plays rock in Spanish. “For us, it's really important to have songs in Spanish in New York and I think all around the country there are a lot of Spanish speakers,” Daud said. “It’s really important to have a band singing in Spanish for those people, for us.”
Since 2016, Daud has been writing and performing with different musicians but had a regular band he would play with back in Minnesota. Since his move to New York, Daud started meeting new people, new musicians and now is playing with Carlos Lozano, from Colombia on the bass and KeeKay, from Venezuela on the drums. They have been playing together since May and started playing shows this year.

Recently they performed at the Organic Jam Session on Nov. 22 at the Shrine in Harlem. The band used it as a way to promote themselves, talk with people and also meet new musicians. Which is the goal for the Organic Jam Sessions, networking. “It was a lot of fun for a Monday,” Daud said. They also played at Bowery Electric on Nov. 26 which featured Jules Daud and four other bands playing as well.
Daud shared how rewarding it feels to be back on stage after the COVID-19 pandemic, but how challenging it is to find venues to book, but he hopes that all his hard work will be the result of his and the band’s success. For next year, the band is striving to start playing festivals and even start touring, but for now, they continue their performances in the New York area. They performed on Dec. 5 at Pete’s Candy Store, a small venue in Brooklyn and their next show will be on Thursday, Dec.16 at the Berlin Venue in Manhattan.
